Methodology

Our method for deciding on what needs to address came from card sorting 'how might we?" scenarios. This entails writing questions about how to approach various issues or challenges within the context of our research. for example: "how might we give a platform for the artist?" after forming around 50 of these we sorted them into categories as patterns would emerge and then narrow our focus down to a final selection which gave us the scenarios our user flows (next section) would address.

Field study

Our team went out on location to experience it first-hand to immerse ourselves and uncover insights that could be of value to the research. We noticed the pain point of having to route the walk independently, switching between apps, and navigating the scrolling list of POIs.

Survey

Our team developed a 15-question survey to understand how people share and discover art. We also included questions aimed at people's understanding of art walks, feelings around the current iteration of Whimsy Walks, and what they would expect/like to see included in a future build.

Heuristic evaluation.

Each member of the team participated in a feedback session with another student whose goal was to spot potential heuristic violations so that our final designs would operate at a higher level and ensure no design elements contradicted standard conventions in regard to app design and user interface interactions.
