Smart TV

Enhancing Shared Viewing Experiences

  • Smart TV is a project I worked on as one of three team members for my BIMD 363: Studio Elements III – Practicum class at UW Bothell.

  • Users with conflicting preferences often struggle to decide what to watch, leading to frustration. The goal is to create a solution that satisfies everyone’s interests.

  • How might we help people with competing interests decide what to watch so that everyone feels satisfied with the outcome?

Design Process

Discover

Observation for Empathy

To ensure a user-centered design, we conducted:

  • Competitive Analysis

Research popular TVs to understand key features and trends.

  • User Interview

Understand the different types of users and their unique expectations and needs.

  • User Research (Survey)

Gathering information about users’ preferences and pain points when deciding what to watch with family or friends who have different preferences.

Define

Synthesized research to identify user needs, goals, and pain points.
Defined a problem statement to guide the design process.

Outcome: A clear, actionable problem statement that drives ideation and solution development

"People often struggle to decide what to watch when their preferences conflict, leading to frustration or dissatisfaction. There is a need for a solution that helps groups or pairs with differing interests reach a decision that satisfies everyone."

Develop

Generated a variety of ideas and potential solutions to address the defined problem.

"How might we help people with different preferences choose what to watch together?"

Delever

Developed the final solution with a focus on usability, aesthetics, and functionality.

Outcome: A fully realized, tested product ready for deployment.
